D. Mustafina. About the service class Tatars who lived in the Kazan Slobodas
The questions about the sources of formation and occupation of one of the categories of the Tatars service people — residents of the Tatar Sloboda in Kazan are discussed in the article. Tatars who lived in those Slobodas were non-uniform not only in the social relation, but also belonged to various ethnos who profess Moslem. The facts that natives of northern areas of modern Afghanistan and Central Asia settled in Sloboda wer confirmed by the application of the service Tatar man that were attached to notes.

A. Natarov. «Sinbirsk Stroyelny book of 157-158 (1649-1650)» (Some remarks)
Stroyelny books of the medieval Moscow state are one of the most informative historical sources. The author of the article analyses the Simbirsk Stroyelny book of 1649-1650 and proves that it was mistakenly published as the part of the Stroyelny book of 1653-1654. The main maintenance of the source is devoted to recruitment of various categories of the service class people: noblemen, children seigniorial, archers, Cossacks and Tatars of the service class, Chuvashs and Mordva.

I. Toropitsyn. The Astrakhan Yurtovsky Tatars in an orbit of the Russian foreign policy in the North Caucasus in the XVII — the first half of the XVIII century
Relationship between Russia and the people of the North Caucasus in the XVII-XVIII centuries developed with active participation of local population of the border territories. Direct contacts with the North Caucasian people were supported by the Astrakhan voevodas and governors. While realizing the diplomatic and prospecting ties with North Caucasian owners, the Astrakhan authorities relied on experience the Yurtovskikh Tatars of the Lower Volga area. According to the authorities instructions the Astrakhan Yurtovsky Tatars collected the information about a political situation on border lands. In addition they were used as diplomats for negotiating with North Caucasian owners and the Crimean khans. Tatars were attracted also for protection and support of the foreign embassies who passed through Astrakhan, and also for rendering military assistance in the North Caucasus.

I. Fayzrakhmanov. Family sections in the Tatar villages in 1820-1864
The historical literature uses the term «family section» which means the separation of the country farms of the XIX century due to separation of children from parents. On the basis of archival documents of the Central State Archive of the Samara region the author shows the amount of family sections in the Tatar villages of the Bugulma district of the Samara province in 1820-1864.

E. Mironova. Official crimes of Kazan nobility (the middle of the XIX — beginning of the XX century)
The official crimes of the Kazan province nobles in the post-reform period are described in the article for the first time. The author presents statistics of the most common official crimes, the mechanism of punishment on them.

I. Zagidullin. Petitions of Kazan Muslims in 1905
The representatives of the Kazan Muslim community submitted petitions to the Committee of Ministers about change of the current legislation in 1905. In particular, they wanted to delete the articles that infringed on the rights of the Russian Muslims. The analysis of these documents allows to make observationsabout degree of legal literacy and a political maturity of regional leaders.

G. Latypova. Institution of the Soviet authorities of national education in the Kazan province (1917-1918)
The TASSR national commissariat of education as one of new state institutes of the power, was subject to process of deep public transformations after events of October, 1917. It became the instrument of sociocultural modernization in the national and state autonomy formed in 1920 under the name of the Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

R. Sadykova. Review of sources on history of the peasantry of Tataria in the 1920th. (On the example of documents of the National Archive of the Republic of Tatarstan)
The review of documents on history of the peasantry of Tataria in the 1920th which are stored in funds of the National Archive of the Republic of Tatarstan is presented in the article. Documents of the executive bodies — the TASSR Central Executive Committee, national commissariats, the kantonn, regional, village councils — tell about position of the village and moods of peasants on the eve of mass collectivization.

A. Gallyamova. «The shortcomings noted in the resolution by the Central Committee of All-Union Communist Party (bolsheviks)… are still not overcome» (The article is devoted to the Year of Literature)
The article is devoted to the problem of realization of the cultural policy in Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in the period of late Stalinism. The author presents the documents of 1952-1953 testifying to ideological control over activity of the creative intellectuals Tatar to the Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic and the atmosphere of informing and suspiciousness between creative intellectuals.

E. Dolgov. Archival documents on an interregnum of 1825
The article describes the period of an interregnum of 1825 which arose after Alexander I’s death on November 19 and proceeding till December 14, 1825 when Nicholas I became the emperor. Documents on this subject from funds of the National Archive of the Republic of Tatarstan are offered to the readers’ attention.

O. Panteleeva. Rector of the Kazan University, subjugator of the South Pole I. Simonov: pages of the biography
The work is devoted to the Kazan University rector, the astronomer I. Simonov (1794-1855). He was the first of the Russian astronomers who took part in round-the-world expedition to the South Pole on the boat «East» and «Mirnyi» under the leadership of F. Bellingshausen in 1819-1821.

I. Klyueva. The sculptor S. Erzуa and Kazan (Unknown archival data)
The article is devoted to the well-known Mordvinian sculptor S. Erzуa (1876-1959). The period of stay in Kazan became one of the major stages in creative formation of future master. The article’s author tells about the Kazan period of the sculptor, his work in an icon-painting workshop of P. Kovalinsky (the 1890th), establishes the fact of its acquaintance to the Tatar sculptor S. Akhun (the 1950th).

Yu. Guseva. «For the purpose of renewal of an Islamic brotherhood» (The appeal of the mufti R. Fakhretdin to the Central Religious Administration of Muslims of BASSR (1927))
The published document is the address by the mufti of the Central Religious Administration of Muslims of Internal Russia and Siberia R. Fakhretdin. He addressed to the Central Religious Administration of Muslims of BASSR (on January 14, 1927). It contains an appeal to unite the two Muftiates in uniform Religious Administration. The text of the address is published for the first time.

Ya. Pylypchuk. Prehistory of Hungarians and the Hungarian-Permian Problem
This work deals with a Hungarian prehistory, and the study of the relationship of the Finno-Permian and Ugrian people. Resettlement of Ugrians from Trans-Uralia to Ural and Perm regions take place in the Epoch of Great Migrations. Ugrians assimilated and settled in this region. Region of the Middle Kama region was territory of interaction of the Finno-Permians with Hungarians. The interaction between them was reflected in linguistics and material culture. Interaction time of the Hungarians with the Finno-Permian peoples dates back to the VI — the beginning of the IX century.

R. Iskhakov, Kh. Bagautdinova. School education of the Tatar Kryashens during the post-reform period and destiny of the «foreign» teacher in the memoirs by F. Nikiforov
The document that is given to the readers’ attention is prepared by the student of the Kazan central Baptized-Tatar School, the teacher F. Nikiforov and shows his difficult life. We can get acquainted with development of the school education of baptized Tatars in the 1860-1870th, and also life and customs of the Kryashen society through the destiny of the certain representative of the «foreign» teacher’s environment.

Scientific travel to Southern Siberia and East Turkestan in 1889-1892 for the purpose of languages and ethnography of the Turkic people studying became an important boundary of vital and professional way of professor of the Kazan University N. Katanov (1862-1922). Interesting extracts from the traveling diary of N. Katanov «Travel across Siberia, Dzungariya and East Turkestan», stored in National Archive of the Republic of Tatarstan, are offered to the readers.

A. Mukhamadeev. The work by Kul Ghali «Kyssa-i Yusuf» as a source on studying of legal relationship of the Volga Bulgarians of the domongolsky period
The poem by Kul Ghali «Kyssa-i Yusuf» from the point of view of detection of the legal norm applied by the Volga Bulgarians of the domongolsky period is analyzed in the article. Studying of the work content allowed to reveal norms of matrimonial relationship, types of crimes and punishments, the principles of legal proceedings, and also the rule of purchase and sale. It is possible to use «Kyssa-i Yusuf» as an additional source on studying of the right of the Volga Bulgarians.

O. Troyepolskaya, N. Troyepolskaya, K. Rudenko. About archeology monuments in the former Kazan province from statements of the country population
The article presents the manuscript, which wasn’t published earlier, of the report of the Kazan Religious Academy professor I. Pokrovsky «Historical and archaeological monuments of the former Kazan province in national memory and representation of local population according to the preserved odds». The report was made at the meeting of the Society of Archeology, History and Ethnography on April 22, 1928 at the Kazan University. The report opens not only documentary certificates on ancient monuments of archeology, but also the attitude of local population and officials towards them.

This article deals with the basic laws of stratigraphy of the Middle Volga area toponyms in groups of languages (Turkish, Slavic, ancient Finno-Ugric and Iranian) on the basis of their historical and stratigraphic and linguageographical analysis. The author shows the features of areal toponyms on lexico-semantic, and morphological levels.

E. Burdin. The Volga — the Old Gryaznukha: the flooded history
The article is devoted to historical and cultural heritage of the ancient Volga village Old Gryaznukha, from 1861 to 1920, which was a part of the Spassky district of the Kazan province. The main attention is paid to archaeological monuments in the neighborhood of the settlement, history of an Orthodox church and to other objects of heritage, and also process of resettlement before creation of the Kuibyshev reservoir. The author elicited the unique facts from village history.

E. Vagabova. Libraries of the Baku Oilmen Congress Council (the end of the XIX — the beginning of the XX century)
Intensive development of oil industry promoted formation of the Baku Oilmen Congress Council in 1884. Opening of libraries in Baku oil-field areas was one of the tasks of this organization. The article author considers activity of these libraries, and also provides quantitative data of books and readers.

B. Militsyn. Legendary «Volgar»
«Volgar» ferry was the legendary vessel which for many years plied between Kazan and the right coast of Volga. It was constructed in Sweden in 1895 by request of the Kazan merchant S. Kovalyov. «Volgar» served more than half a century (till 1956) before filling of the Kuibyshev reservoir.

R. Asadova. State of trade in Northern Azerbaijan during World War I
World War I led to weakening of the international economic relations of the Russian Empire and reduction of commodity turnover between certain regions. It was shown in reduction of commodity turnover between Baku and certain regions of Northern Azerbaijan, and also in change of the range of goods. The author of article shows scales of changes in trade life of Northern Azerbaijan during the War.

G. Yunusova. Phonorecords of a folk music of orthodox Tatars
The article gives the review of the audio recordings of the Kryashen musical folklore which are stored in the Center of Written and Musical Heritage of the Institute of Language, Literature and Art named after G. Ibragimov of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan. The main attention is paid to an originality of this phenomenon, music samples of the Kryashen and to their links with culture of the Kazan Tatars and the Russians.

D. Usmanova. The Kazan scientists’ work with Turkic documents from the personal archive of Нattori Shiro
The article is devoted to the results of work of the Kazan scientists group including professor D. Usmanova (the Kazan (Volga) Federal University), assistant professor L. Usmanova (the Kazan (Volga) Federal University, Institute of History named after Sh. Mardzhani of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan) and the candidate of historical sciences M. Gibatdinov (Institute of History named after Sh. Mardzhani of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan) in the scientific centers of Japan. The important documents and works connected with life and activity of the representatives of the Tatar emigration in the first half of the XX century were revealed during scientific researches. Contacts with representatives of scientific community of Japan allow to develop the international cooperation between them and the scientists of Tatarstan.

D. Usmanova. The International symposium «Thirty years of crisis: empire, violence and ideology in Eurasia from the First to the Second World War»
The article characterizes the international symposium «Thirty years of crisis: the empire, violence and ideology in Eurasia from the First to the Second World War» work. It was organized due to initiative of the Slavistik-Euroasian Research Center of the Hokkaido University (Sapporо, Japan). The scientific forum devoted to the 100 anniversary of World War I brought together about 40 leading experts on modern and contemporary history of Eurasia. Work of the forum testifies that Japanese scientific centers come to the new level of the international cooperation and turn into the leading world centers of studying of the Russian history and culture.
